Shira arrived at the village with a printed curriculum and a sincere desire to help, two things that turned out to be a good starting point but not enough.

The language was the first obstacle, not English and not Hebrew but something third that required hands and eyes and all the patience she brought.

The country is located in the center of the land and has many beautiful places.

בַּבֹּקֶר הָלַכְנוּ לַשּׁוּק הַגָּדוֹל וְקָנִינוּ פֵּרוֹת טְרִיִּים ‎. .

In the morning we went to the big market and bought fresh fruit.

אַחֲרֵי הַצָּהֳרַיִם יָשַׁבְנוּ בַּגִּנָּה וְדִבַּרְנוּ עַל הַחַיִּים ‎. .

In the afternoon we sat in the garden and talked about life.

הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ שָׁקְעָה לְאַט וְהָרוּחַ נָשְׁבָה בְּעַדְנוּת ‎. .

The sun set slowly and the wind blew gently.
